Owner – Nations Traffic Safety School, Inc.
My job responsibilities: Jenn is the owner of Nations Traffic Safety School with her dad, Rick, specializing in state-certified defensive driving courses for drivers of all ages. Her focus is on improving road safety by addressing the impact of stress, sleep, and decision-making on driving behaviors. Jenn collaborates with county safety teams, incorporates data-driven insights, and engages in state and local initiatives to promote safer driving practices.
Why I joined the Coalition: As a mother of two teen daughters and someone frequently asked by parents for guidance on helping teens navigate getting their licenses, I’ve seen firsthand the gaps in driver education. Additionally, young adults have shared that they learned more from my in-person defensive driving courses than from traditional driver’s education. This motivated me to join the coalition to bring my passion for driver safety into a space with like-minded professionals to improving the education and resources we provide for teens to reduce collisions and fatalities.
Hobbies or areas of interest outside of work: I’m passionate about photography and love capturing meaningful moments. Whether it’s traveling with my family or simply watching the sunrise at the beach, I value creating lasting memories together.
What was your favorite song when you were a teenager? Honestly, I was a band kid so no true favorite particular song. Just give me a good boy band or an iconic ’80s hit!
What make and model was your first car? 2 Door Saturn Coupe
What has changed most about driving from the time you were a teenager to now? The biggest change I’ve seen is the rise of technology in vehicles. When I was a teenager, distractions were things like switching out cassettes or CDs. Now, with smartphones, infotainment systems, and constant connectivity, distracted driving has become a much bigger issue. The advancements in technology, while beneficial in many ways, have also added layers of distraction that weren’t as prevalent before.
The one tip I would give any new teen driver would be: Take driver’s education and any additional driving classes you can to build your confidence behind the wheel. Driving is one of the most important skills you’ll learn as a teen, and it’s something you’ll rely on every day throughout your life. Understanding how your day-to-day decisions—like managing stress and sleep—affect both your health and driving will help you make safer choices on the road.
