Law Enforcement Liaison – Florida Law Enforcement Liaison Program – FDOT
My job responsibilities: I am the Law Enforcement Liaison for FDOT District 3, supporting law enforcement agencies to strengthen traffic safety initiatives and provide guidance on traffic-related programs and resources. I also continue to serve on a part-time basis as a Deputy Sheriff with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Why I joined the Coalition: To support the coalition’s objectives as a liaison with law enforcement agencies. As a parent of teen drivers, I’m also personally invested.
Professional Accomplishments: I’ve served in law enforcement for over 20 years, including roles as a Sergeant overseeing patrol operations and traffic enforcement. My experience includes community policing, DUI enforcement, training, traffic homicide investigations, and grant management. As an instructor, I’ve developed and led courses on crash investigations, traffic enforcement strategies, de-escalation techniques, and other topics. I was recognized as “Sworn Outstanding Performer of the Year” in 2022 and “Officer of the Year” in 2011.
Hobbies or areas of interest outside of work: Travel
What was your favorite song when you were a teenager? I’m a Michael Bolton fan… Not exactly typical teen music, but hey, it is what it is.
What make and model was your first car? 1987 Chevy Blazer
What has changed most about driving from the time you were a teenager to now? Aggressive and distracted driving have definitely increased. This makes the roads more dangerous, especially for young or inexperienced drivers.
The one tip I would give any new teen driver would be: Remember that driving is one of the most dangerous things you’ll do every day. Respect it.
