Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition and State Farm Ground Your Parents Contest (“The Contest”) OFFICIAL RULES

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. The Contest is void where prohibited by law. Ground Your Parents Kit boxes will be shipped for free to all those who officially request one, available only while supplies last.

CONTEST PERIOD

The entry period for the Contest begins on November 1, 2021, at 12:00 AM Eastern Time and ends on March 30, 2022 at 12:00AM Eastern Time. By entering the Contest, Entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsors, which are binding and final in all matters relating to the Contest.

SPONSORS

Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition, 444 Appleyard Drive, STE AD 155, Tallahassee, FL 32304 (“Sponsors”).

ELIGIBILITY

Florida high school students who are legal residents of Florida and who are fourteen (14) to eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry are eligible to enter the Contest. All Florida-based high schools are eligible to enter the Contest.

HOW TO ENTER

Eligible students may enter the Contest as an individual. Eligible Schools may enter the Contest as a School. To enter the Contest, each individual or school must:

  • Utilize Ground Your Parents kit materials (either by digitally download and printing kit materials, or formally requesting a free kit while supplies last), found here: https://flteensafedriver.org/ground-your-parents/
  • Participating students and/or the representing school must submit a formal response in 500 words or less describing “How would you use a $1,000 grant from the Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition at your school to support a traffic safety need or implement a traffic safety project?”. All essay responses must be emailed to urgrounded@flteensafedriver.org by March 30th, 2022 to be considered eligible for school grant prizes.
  • Participating students who are submitting photos to be considered for the Student Superlative Category must email their photos to urgrounded@flteensafedriver.org by March 30, 2022 to be considered eligible for individual student prizes.
  • For individuals under eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry who enter the Contest or appear in video, photos, social, or digital media, the respective individual’s parent or legal guardian must also sign the requisite release.

Limit essay submission per school entry.

All submissions must be original work by the submitting individual.  No content that contains displays or use of a mobile device while driving will be considered. The use of profanity of any kind is not allowed in any submitted materials. No copyrighted material may be used. Violation of any of these provisions will render entry void.

By entering the Contest, Entrants agree that Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition and State Farm has the right to use, reproduce, reprint, distribute, and display the digital media for any organizational purpose, without notification, consent, or compensation to the Entrant(s). The Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition’s purpose includes, but is not limited to, displaying the video on The Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition’s website, social media, at conferences, or at other venues, regardless of whether fees are charged. No royalties, talent fees, or compensation will be paid to those who appear in the video.

By entering the Contest, Entrants grant permission for their video to be posted on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, if selected as a winner. Entrants agree that Sponsors are not responsible for any unauthorized use of entries by third parties. Sponsors do not guarantee the posting of any entry and reserve the right to remove any posted entry for any reason and at any time.

Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition, State Farm, and their agents and employees assume no responsibility for lost, late, incomplete, misdirected, damaged, postage due, or illegible entries; or for any computer, telephone, cable, satellite, network, electronic or Internet hardware or software malfunctions, failures, connections, garbled or jumbled transmissions, service provider/Internet/web site/use net accessibility or availability, traffic congestion or unauthorized human intervention.

Incomplete entries or entries that do not otherwise adhere to these Official Rules will be disqualified. By entering the Contest, Entrants agree that their entry conforms to these Official Rules and that Sponsors, in their sole discretion, may disqualify an entry for any reason, including if they determine, in their sole discretion, that the entry fails to conform to these Official Rules in any way or otherwise contains unacceptable content as determined by Sponsors, in their sole discretion.

Upon submission, the video shall become the property of Sponsors and will not be returned.

WINNER SELECTION, NOTIFICATION, AND PRIZES

Judging and Winner Selection for School Prizes

All eligible entries received by Sponsors will be scored by a panel of qualified judges to select twenty (20) winners based on the following criteria: 75% Clear and compelling expression of traffic safety need or traffic safety project idea, and 25% demonstrated financial need. The twenty (20) entries with the highest total score will be deemed winners. In the event of a tie, an additional, “tie-breaking” judge will determine the winner(s) based on the criteria listed herein. Sponsors reserve the right to select fewer than twenty (20) winners if, in their sole discretion, they do not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified entries.

Judging and Winners Selection for Individual Superlative Student Prizes

All eligible entries received by Sponsors will be scored by a panel of qualified judges to select three (3) winners in three respective superlative categories, based on the following criteria: 25% clear and compelling expression of traffic safety message, 25% technical execution and quality, 25% visual appeal, and 25% level of utlization of kit materials. The three superlative categories are “Most Creative Reminder Sticky Note Placement”, “Best Safe Driving Recognition Entry”, and “Best Parent Punishment/Chore Entry”. The three (3) entries with the highest total score will be deemed winners. In the event of a tie, an additional, “tie-breaking” judge will determine the winner(s) based on the criteria listed herein. Sponsors reserve the right to select fewer than three (3) winners if, in their sole discretion, they do not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified entries.

Winners Announcement and Notification

The twenty three (23) winning entries will be announced on April 15, 2022 at 12:00 PM Eastern Time via Facebook and Instagram social media channels, as well as the Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition website (FLTeenSafeDriver.org). Each winner will be notified by email on April 14, 2022 on or before 5:00 PM Eastern Time.

Prizes

The following prizes will be awarded. Twenty (20) Florida high schools will receive a $1,000 grant to be used to fund a traffic safety need or implement a traffic safety project at their high school. Three (3) Students will be individually selected in our superlative category to receive a $1,000 scholarship that can be used for educational expenses.

If a winner cannot be contacted within three (3) days of the respective announcement date or is deemed ineligible, the respective prize will be automatically forfeited by the winner, and a new winner will be selected.

GENERAL RULES

By entering the Contest, Entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules.

Winners may make no substitution or transfer of prizes. All federal, state and local taxes and other associated costs are the responsibility of each winner. Winners will be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and an acknowledgement of taxation and value of prize form.

Sponsors reserve the right to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest for any reason, in their sole discretion, by posting such notice on Facebook and Instagram, as well as the Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition website (FLTeenSafeDriver.org).

BY ENTERING THE CONTEST, ENTRANTS AGREE TO RELEASE AND HOLD HARMLESS SPONSORS AND ITS RESPECTIVE PARENTS, SUBSIDIARIES AND AFFILIATED ENTITIES, DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, ATTORNEYS, AGENTS, AND REPRESENTATIVES FROM ANY DAMAGE, INJURY, DEATH, LOSS, CLAIM, ACTION, DEMAND, OR OTHER LIABILITY (COLLECTIVELY, “CLAIMS”) THAT MAY ARISE FROM YOUR ACCEPTANCE, POSSESSION AND/OR USE OF ANY PRIZE OR YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE CONTEST, OR FROM ANY MISUSE OR MALFUNCTION OF ANY PRIZE AWARDED, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER SUCH CLAIMS, OR KNOWLEDGE OF THE FACTS CONSTITUTING SUCH CLAIMS, EXIST AT THE TIME OF ENTRY OR ARISE AT ANY TIME THEREAFTER.

BY ENTERING THE CONTEST, ENTRANTS AGREE THAT TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW: (A) ANY AND ALL DISPUTES, CLAIMS AND CAUSES OF ACTION ARISING OUT OF OR CONNECTED WITH THE CONTEST, OR ANY PRIZE AWARDED, WILL BE RESOLVED INDIVIDUALLY, WITHOUT RESORT TO ANY FORM OF CLASS ACTION; (B) ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, JUDGMENTS AND AWARDS WILL BE LIMITED TO ACTUAL THIRD-PARTY, OUT-OF-POCKET COSTS INCURRED (IF ANY) NOT TO EXCEED FIFTY DOLLARS ($50.00), BUT IN NO EVENT WILL ATTORNEYS’ FEES BE AWARDED OR RECOVERABLE; (C) UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL ANY ENTRANT BE PERMITTED TO OBTAIN ANY AWARD FOR, AND ENTRANTS HEREBY KNOWINGLY AND EXPRESSLY WAIVE ALL RIGHTS TO SEEK, PUNITIVE, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR SPECIAL DAMAGES, LOST PROFITS AND/OR ANY OTHER DAMAGES, OTHER THAN ACTUAL OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES NOT TO EXCEED FIFTY DOLLARS ($50.00), AND/OR ANY RIGHTS TO HAVE DAMAGES MULTIPLIED OR OTHERWISE INCREASED; (D) ENTRANTS’ REMEDIES ARE LIMITED TO A CLAIM FOR MONEY DAMAGES (IF ANY) AND ENTRANTS IRREVOCABLY WAIVE ANY RIGHT TO SEEK INJUNCTIVE OR EQUITABLE RELIEF; AND (E) ENTRANTS IRREVOCABLY AGREE TO BRING ANY ACTION ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE CONTEST IN THE LEON COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT, FLORIDA, OR THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF FLORIDA (IF JURISDICTIONAL PREREQUISITES ARE SATISFIED).
